TM Sports Para sa Bayan 2017 by GLOBE Launched for Underprivileged Youth; 2nd Year Partnership with Astro via Tribe Announced

TM Sports Para sa Bayan 2017 by Globe launched today at Aristocrat Restaurant at Roxas Boulevard, Pasay City that will help our underprivileged youth boost their dream with the games they loved. It is a program specifically designed to give underprivileged youth a chance to improve their lives and reach their dreams through sports. At the same time this announced the 2nd year partnership with Astro via Tribe.

The program is spearheaded by Globe TM, the fastest growing mobile brand in terms of customer base, with over 29.4 million customers and counting.

This developed as Globe announced the partnership with leading content and consumer company in Southeast Asia, Astro Malaysia Holdings Berhad (Astro) and its regional over-the-top (OTT) streaming service Tribe for the second straight year.

The tie-up will again allow talented Filipino kids to get a chance to undergo the Astro Kem Bola Advanced Training Program in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and, potentially, the Overseas Training Camp in Barcelona, Spain by coaches from FC Barcelona Football Academy (FCBEscola) later this year.

“We are happy to take our sports outreach program beyond Malaysia to provide talented kids within the region an avenue to achieve their dreams. We believe in the comprehensive development of an athlete and look forward to supporting the advancement of football amongst youth in the region through strategic collaborations such as the one we have with Globe,” said Iskandar Samad, CEO of Tribe, subsidiary of Astro.

“We want to use the power of sports to instill the importance of having good values and create opportunities for higher learning especially for kids who may have no means to pursue their desired careers. At the same time, we want to encourage them to participate in an active and healthy lifestyle and be aware of the positive benefits of sports. Together with Tribe, we hope to discover kids with potential in the game and help them further harness their craft,” said Ray Guinoo, Globe Director for TM Portfolio and Brand Management. TM is Globe Telecom’s value brand offering which has gained popularity due to its very affordable text and call promo offers.

TM Sports Para sa Bayan 2017 will revolve around football, basketball, and volleyball, three of the most popular sports in the Philippines which anyone, regardless of gender and social status, can easily engage in.

For football, Globe has tapped the services of Green Archers United (GAU), a professional football league which has been the company’s implementing partner in developing the football grassroots program in the last four years.

Globe has also partnered with select grassroots football organizations such as:

  • Dream Big Pilipinas (Metro Manila)
  • Fundacion Santiago (Vigan, Ilocos Sur and San Carlos City, Negros Occidental)
  • Fundlife International (Palo, Leyte)

The three non-profit organizations all conduct free football clinics, tutoring sessions, and values formation sessions to kids in underprivileged communities, conflict areas, or disaster-affected provinces.

TM Sports Para Sa Bayan has successfully completed its run in Metro Manila and Tacloban in June, and will soon be conducting the program at the Elpidio Quirino Stadium in Vigan, Ilocos Sur on July 22, and at the San Carlos Football Field in San Carlos City, Negros Occidental on July 29.

“We are very thankful to TM/Globe for their support in our mission of community intervention through football, education and values formation. Dream Big Pilipinas looks forward to many more years of bringing together community football clubs and providing opportunities through beautiful games,” said Edmund Qua Hiansen, Chairman, Dream Big Pilipinas.

Aside from this; TM Sports Para sa Bayan basketball program will kick off within the third quarter of 2017 and will consist of free basketball clinics for boys and girls in key cities nationwide.
