Globe Telecommunication prepare a Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Program, preparing the communities for flood, landslides, strong winds, and other possible emergencies brought about by the rainy season.
Globe’s pilot implementation of this program in two local government units in the Bicol region have been identified such as Malinao, Albay and Mercedes, Camarines Norte.
Through Globe’s SMS Broadcast Facility, the municipal mayors of these LGU’s will have direct contact with their barangay captains for faster coordination and immediate download of relevant and critical information. Barangay tanods will also undergo capability building on Basic Weather 101 lessons and Basic Emergency Response Training.
Under its “Sagot Ka ni Kap” program, Globe provided the two municipalities with equipment that will help them patrol their respective areas. This includes cellphones (26 in Mercedes and 29 in Malinao), 2,000 SIM cards, uniforms for nightly duty, and personal accident insurance via SMS registration.
Globe is a partner of the Department of Education’s Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office, supplying the government agency with mobile and internet support for monitoring purposes in the midst of calamities.
